About Legerwood…
Legerwood is a family run farm in the Scottish Borders that has been in the Scott Aiton family for four generations. The centenary of Scott Aiton’s at Legerwood was in 2022 and we enjoyed celebrating with so many people involved in life at Legerwood over the decades.
The church or ‘kirk’ is the oldest building at Legerwood, dating back to 1127. It’s a short, scenic walk from our properties, and we encourage guests to go and visit it. Legerwood is a very small, yet friendly community, so the ability to truly get away from it all makes us the perfect place to come and stay if you are wanting a rural retreat.
THE FARM
Legerwood is a mixed arable, sheep and cattle farm and is currently run by Peter Scott Aiton, alongside his father, Bill, just as Bill’s father and grandfather did before him. Peter’s wife, Jo, and Bill’s wife, Joan, are also partners in the business and take hands on roles during busy times like harvest and lambing, as well as running the holiday accommodation and ticking things over in the farm office respectively. Peter and Jo's three young children, Henry, Clara and Bertie love helping out too. The farm is supported by three full time employees, Danny, Jamie and Robbie, who also live here with their families, as well as seasonal staff during busy periods.
Bill has done significant conservation work at Legerwood over the years which has enhanced its beauty, habitat and nature. The mixed nature of the farm is important for the conservation of the land at Legerwood. Most fields are worked in a rotation which allows the land time to rest and naturally rejuvenate.
